Introducing Vista Chiropractor Dr. Kevin Dette
When I was 17 yrs old, I was involved in a surfing accident. The waves were big that day and I was a bit nervous because of the shallow reef below. I had a few good rides that morning but this last wave would change my life and re-shape my future.
As I took off on the wave I had no idea what would happen next. As I rode down the face of the wave it closed over me and in a moment crushed me onto the shallow reef below. When I surfaced I was being washed up onto the rocky shore, my body bleeding and my mind in a haze. After receiving medical attention from lifeguards for the open wounds, my friends who were with me were instructed to take me to the emergency room. As it turns out, the friend who was driving did not take me to the emergency room; he took me to his chiropractor.
When I crawled into the chiropractic office, I was in agonizing pain. The Doctor did a complete spinal examination and took an x-ray to locate any spinal problems. After being adjusted and given specific exercises, I was able to walk out of his office standing upright and almost without pain.
I was amazed at the way the Doctor was able to locate my problem and correct it using only his hands without the use of drugs or surgery. He told me how my body was able to heal itself, about the subluxation, and about the philosophy of chiropractic. That day changed my life and I had a new found respect for my health and for the help of chiropractic. Weeks and months passed as I was getting adjusted. I noticed how my body began to function better. I got colds less often and never used Tylenol or any other pain killers to help dull the pain that I used to have before my surfing accident. My digestion improved, and most importantly, my mind was more clear to make important decisions.
It wasn’t much longer after that I decided to be a chiropractor, so that I could help improve and shape the lives of others as my chiropractor had done for me.
I began my education at UC Santa Cruz and majored in Biology. I fell in love with learning about the body and I was amazed by the intelligence that coordinated all living things. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz and went on the Life Chiropractic College West where I graduated with honors in 2001. My chiropractic education nourished my passion for learning about health and wellness. The philosophy of natural health gave me the vision and dream to see the world become healthier with chiropractic and I continue to pursue that dream every day.
My philosophy is simple, small steps everyday will lead to huge results over the course of your life. Too many people wait until their health fails before they make it a priority and are paying very heavy prices for this, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” attitude.
The fastest segment of our population today is centenarians. These are people that are 100 years old. Currently there are 70,000 people over the age of 100. With the baby boom generation maturing over the next 50 years, the U.S. Census Bureau expects the number of centenarians to climb to over 4.2 million by the year 2050.
The chances of you reaching this milestone are increasing every day. The question is, “what will your health be like when you get there?” Do you think the health choices you make today will impact the quality of life in your future? Of course they will.
One of the most common comments heard by seniors is, “If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.” We are getting this advance notice that our parents and grandparents didn’t receive. What will you do with this information?
Chiropractic can help you achieve the quality of life you deserve!
I was born and raised in Encinitas, California, and grew up surfing and racing motorcycles. While attending UC Santa Cruz I began riding mountain bikes and now; outside my practice this is what I love to do.
While attending a seminar called "The Millionaire Mind Intensive" hosted by T. Harv Ecker in 2005, I met my wife, Carleigh. She is a wellness coach helping people achieve greater health through nutrition and weight loss.
I firmly believe in practicing what I teach. I have been getting adjusted since I was 17 years old. I get checked by my chiropractor every week, regardless of how I "feel". I eat organic foods, exercise daily and maintain a balance of work, family, and play. Everything I teach in my practice is a part of my life, I live the chiropractic wellness lifestyle.
Thank you visiting. I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how I can help you reach your health goals. Give our office a call, or email me using the link below to arrange a time to discuss how I can help you toward those goals.
